Dr. Ellen Marmur Has Spread Skin Cancer Awareness To Patagonia!
Did you know that at high altitudes, sun exposure is increased exponentially? Dr. Marmur and a team of skin cancer survivors and sun protection advocates launched Skin Cancer, Take a Hike!™ with great anticipation and success! She dedicated 100% of her fundraising to the AAD’s SPOT Skin Cancer campaign.
Skin Cancer, Take a Hike! went viral with amazing dermatologists and their communities who have led hikes all over the world like Florida, Georgia, New York, Colorado, California, and even one extreme adventurer has taken SCTAH to Mount Everest! In 2015, she led her 2nd annual SCTAH in the Northeastern United States hike in the Great Peaks of the magnificent Adirondack Mountains.
In 2017, Dr. Marmur once again challenged skin cancer and trekked to the 8th wonder of the world, Patagonia! There the ozone layer is so depleted even the local animals are getting skin cancers due to excess sun exposure. Dr. Marmur's passions for healthy skin and a healthy planet come together philanthropically with Skin Cancer, Take a Hike!
The goal is to show we can live our lives to the fullest, exercising, hiking, and enjoying the sun wisely! We are educating the public about skin cancer prevention and detection so we will help change behaviors and ultimately save lives.
With 8,500 people in the United States diagnosed with skin cancer every day, and with one American dying every single hour, it is vital to Dr. Marmur and the AAD to provide valuable education and awareness campaigns, access to shade structures, and free skin cancer screenings to reduce mortality rates. Join us to help reduce the incidence of skin cancer. No amount is too small!
You may have heard that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer. But did you know that when caught early, skin cancer has a 98% cure rate! That’s why raising awareness about skin cancer prevention and detection is so important to the members of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). It’s also why Marmur Medical is dedicating months of preparation and a week away from our work and families for this event. Please go ahead and click the “Donate” button now on the right to support our efforts!
Your 100% tax deductible donation to my hike will be so appreciated and will help the AAD:
- provide free skin cancer screenings for more people across the country, 1000's of skin checks!
- offer free resources to help teach kids and others how to protect their skin with SPF and clothing!
- build permanent shade for outdoor community spaces like parks and zoos to protect children!
