SOCIAL MEDIA TOOLKIT

Social media is a great tool for letting people know why you’re telling Skin Cancer, Take a Hike!™ and what they can do to support you. The Academy has prepared several resources for you to help make your social media outreach even easier.

Start by sharing a link to your personal fundraising page once a week in the months leading up to the event, and then daily the week of the event. Update your followers regularly on how much you have left to raise for your goal and how they can help. Here are some ideas you can use on your social networks to drive online donations:

  • Change your profile photo and/or cover photo. Download one of the images below and upload it to your social media accounts to let others know that you are telling Skin Cancer, Take a Hike!™
  • Make a video. Most social media platforms allow you to stream a video live or record and upload a video. Take this opportunity to make a personal ask for donations from your network. Tell your audience why you are participating. Recognize your top donors by thanking them by name. Challenge some of your close personal contacts to make a donation. Your followers will feel more inspired to give when you put your face and voice behind the cause.
  • Share your story. Do you or someone you know have/had skin cancer? Share a personal photo and tell your followers about your connection to the disease and why skin cancer prevention and detection is important to you.
  • Get your tag on. Start on Facebook by tagging those who have already given and thanking them for their donations. When you tag someone, your post gets shared in your activity feed and the other person's activity feed too. This lets others know that people are already donating to your page and may encourage them to do the same.
  • Set internal goals. Use your social media accounts to update followers on your progress toward your goal and ask for people to help you get over the next hurdle.
  • Don't make every post an ask. Share one of our infographics or other positive anecdotes about the cause too!
  • Use the #SCTAH hashtag. Using the #SCTAH hashtag when posting on Twitter and Instagram to connect your tweets and photos with other Skin Cancer, Take a Hike!™ participants.
